Student co-founders of BYI High School

A rolling admission policy means that you have time to consider Baltimore Youth Initiative High School (BYI), even well beyond Baltimore’s School Choice deadline.

BYI focuses on students’ freedom to construct their own educational processes, emphasizing community and self-transformation.  It is a non-public high school, which means that even if you are not a Baltimore City resident, you can attend if you’re willing to commute.  Artistic expression is integrated into curricula, and teachers nurture unique methods of hands-on learning.

Now that youth input has been brought to the forefront in light of the 2015 Baltimore Uprising, students are finding their voices in deciding their own educational and community needs.  According to the school’s website byihs.org, “BYI is committed to serving ALL students willing to work with drive and commitment to build their curiosity for true learning and leverage their knowledge, skill and voice to eliminate racism and build healthy, peaceful communities.”

The school is offering an Open House on Monday, January 25, 2016.  Flyer below.

Dr. Geri L. Peak, Initiative Director and Administrative Head, and Talia Floyd, co-founder and 2015 graduate, were interviewed on TMOTTRadio’s “99 & Kato” show to talk about what makes BYI your BEST choice for a high school.
